Who does the NHS assessment for Shropshire? anyone know?

Hoping someone on here can help. My doctor referred me for an Autism assessment 3 months ago. Not heard anything since. I went back last week, the doctor confirmed the referral had been sent and was on the system. They said it was an outside agency who does it. I'm kicking myself that I didn't push for contact details as I would like to contact them direct to establish their waiting times and what to expect, letters, phone call, etc. I'm aware it could take 2 to 3 years. I seem to remember someone saying something about the assessment taking place in Cheshire. If anyone from Shropshire could answer this question that would be great. feel free to answer on here or private message if you prefer. thanks.

  • Cheshire and Wirral NHS Trust were who I was referred to

Thanks, now you have mentioned Wirral that has jogged my memory that it was Cheshire and Wirral that was mentioned. For some reason the doctor said it was an outside agency, which made me think it wasn't NHS. Maybe they meant outside my local area.

3 years is crazy to wait, you have my sympathy. 3 months had been bad enough so far.

Questions I'm asking myself. Why do I have to travel to another county? Why nothing closer?

Don't know if I can wait 3+ years not knowing. There is an affordable private route I could take locally but it is not a multi disciplinary assessment. It is one person only. Not sure I should trust this route as it's is not the gold standard from what I've read. Any thoughts people?

  • Cheshire and Wirral NHS Trust were who I was referred to but I am still waiting, more than 3 years now.

They are very reluctant to answer any questions about time scales and told me that they have no one currently doing assessments in Shropshire.

    Very frustrating.

Thank you for sharing this with our community. While we are waiting for the community to respond, you may like to look at our information about autism spectrum disorders:

If you were interested in finding out if you are on the autism spectrum, you would need to have a formal diagnostic assessment. You may find it useful to have a look at the following link for further information about diagnosis and the benefits of getting one:

Furthermore, it is important the professional you see has experience of autism spectrum disorders. You can find details of diagnostic services on our Autism Services Directory in the Assessment and diagnosis section:

Thank you. I hope this helps!
