Directors

What directors do you enjoy? For me, I rather enjoy the work of these people -

Steve Barron (music videos, Electric Dreams, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

Chris Bernard (Letter to Brezhnev, Opium Eaters, Brum, Brookside, EastEnders, My Parents Are Aliens)

Tim Pope (music video director)

Mel Smith (Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie, The Tall Guy, Radioland Murders, Blackball, High Heels and Low Lifes)

I am studying music and media at college, which got me greatly interested in directing. I'd be greatly interested to know if any of you know these directors or their work, and/or what directors you enjoy. And, of course, may Mel Smith rest in peace, can't believe it's been nine years.

  • Im really interested to know what Letter to Breshnev is, I love anything to do with the cold war

I cant say I have too many favourite directors apart from the obvious, Steven Spielberg. I think that man is a genius. Bridge of Spies is my favourite film of his, I think its one of the best films ever made

I loved the old carry on films, which were directed by Peter Rogers

I love German cinema too although Im not sure who directs the films. There is an actor called Daniel Bruhl who is simply excellent, he was in a brilliant film called Goodbye Lenin

  • Letter to Brezhnev was a film from 1985 about two working-class Liverpool girls called Teresa (Margi Clarke) and Elaine (Alexandra Pigg) who fall in love with two sailors from the Soviet Union, a Russian sailor called Peter (Peter Firth) and a Ukrainian sailor called Sergei (Alfred Molina) - one to the extent of wanting to live with him. I won't spoil any more, in case you'd like to see it.

  • I just watched the trailer on you tube, Im going to buy that
