Strengths

I was wondering if you know if you've got any strengths that are stronger because of your autism? I've noticed a few I have.

Honest and loyal: sometimes this works against me but overall I think it's a strength. I don't like liars or lying. Lying makes me upset. I think being honest and loyal is a quality strength.

Heightened senses: this is definitely one of my best strengths. Like I get it sucks sometimes as smell and sound etc can be overwhelming! But my heightened smell told me when food wasn't cooked properly and that my cat had a small infection in her paw which smelt a little but no one else could smell it.

This is all I can think of at the moment. I have MS and my brain is a little tired tonight. I'll add more tomorrow if I think of anything else.

  • I agree with honesty and being fair. In my work I speak to a lot of people with problems and do all I can to help them and signpost them to appropriate places.. Being autistic helps me to understand when people find things hard.

I don't like things uncompleted, so if trying to solve a problem I work at something until I have an answer. I remember a few years ago having post for someone else which looked important and using google to trace that this person who was staying with someone nearby. I think the householder was quite surprised.

I also have a strong sense of smell. When I lost this with Covid I realised how much I relied on it. I too can smell things others miss and realised how much I used this to test things when I lost this temporarily.

  • Hello!

I've also found I'm able to understand when others are facing things and it's hard.

I'm sorry you had Covid, glad you're better now. I've luckily never had it.
