My son as no School!

My son is 12 and when he left his junior special school, he was sent to a high school with a autism inculsion unit. But he found it too much too many kids too much noise. He hasn't been to school for 7 months now. They can't find him a school. Because he is very clever, but he's emotional needs are off the scale. All the other autisum schools are for children with learning difficulties. They are trying to change is statement to fit is needs. But can't find him a school to meet is needs. We live in Wigan.

  • We had our son at home for 8 months - he started at a special shool at Easter, heis 13 and just diagnsed. Like your son very bright but massive emotional needs. While at home after much pushing from us the council provided an hours home tuition each day which was fantastic.  Your son is entitled to be educated and it is not your fault they cannot place him just now.  Go direct to the inclusion manager at your council and insist on some home tuition.  I have found that sadly unless you push and fight your corner you get nothing.  Fortuately I work in education and had some good advisors I am also very pushy and will keep on nagging until someone does something. Dont be fobbed off and dont worry about going straight to the top. Email is great and we have found the top people very helpful and easy to approach.

Good luck and remember - your child is entitled to an appropriate education to suit his needs.
