Does anyone else struggle with hot weather?
I find warm and hot weather really difficult to cope with and when it is like this I feel as though I can't do anything but try to survive until it cools down again. I am shut in the house with all the curtains drawn and windows closed. I open the windows for a while first thing in the morning to try and get the temperature inside to drop as much as possible, but as soon as the exterior temperature exceeds the interior temperature then I rush round and make sure all the windows are closed. In the winter I keep the thermostat at between 13 and 13.5 degrees C, and can't stand it warmer than that. Anything over 16 degrees C inside the house is a crisis for me. Right now it is 18.5 degrees inside and I can not function. I don't understand why other people seem to like it so much.
I also struggle with sunlight, it is too bright and intense and I cannot stand the feeling of it on my skin. I am also scared of getting skin cancer. I do everything I can to avoid going out in it. I prefer cold, dark, grey, cloudy, misty days. Foggy weather is my favorite, when sounds are muffled and everything is grey and cool.
Am I alone or does anyone else feel like this? It is very isolating and restricting.
Give me shade and a cool breeze!
Fortunately, it isn't too hot here. But I do sweat. Most of my t-shirts are now too wee, so I wore a jumper.
Red Bull for me.
Also, to add, engines are one of my least favourite noises. Hearing is the thing I’m most sensitive too and engines are atrocious to me. So car engines running loudly on a hot day are made even worse, if that’s possible, by the dreadful smell that you referred too. Some people love that smell, but I can safely say that I do not.
I’m one of a few that I know who really enjoy the cold. It brings a clarity that the mugginess and oppressiveness of summer does not. The heat saps the energy, where the cold gives it. At least in my opinion anyway. I think facing the cold also demonstrates a strength that facing the heat does not.
Some people love laying out in the sun, surrounded by thousands of other people, but to me, that sounds awful. I would avoid this situation 10 times out of 10. I imagine a lot headed to the beaches and parks to do just that today in fact.
My dream holiday, in fact, my ideal set up generally would be to be somewhere cold and remote. Lots of nice fresh walks around mountain and stream based terrain would be perfect.
Perhaps thats what I am sensing. No one else seems to notice it. It makes me avoid high streets on really hot days
Thats a good idea! I tried something new tonight, I cooked South African babote for dinner, it was lovley
many nasty smelling things turn from liquid to vapour when it's hot, or gets lifted by water turning into vapour
I find these comments really interesting. I really hate hot weather and until now I thought I was fairly alone with that, apart from in my family. Hot weather is one of those things like Christmas that I feel I have to pretend to like cos everyone else does. I enjoy the cold weather, autumn is my favourite season. The feeling of having to put a jumper on for the first time is lovely and I love the oranges and browns of all the leaves. I love spring too and I love wearing T shirts but my favourite type of spring or summer day is the one where its just about warm enough not to wear a jacket, anything more than that is way to hot for me.
Does anyone else find the hot weather a real sensory thing? I do. I also hate being in town during a heatwave as I find I can smell and feel all the exhausts of the cars so intensley and that, coupled with the brightness of the sun and the heat around me is too much for me
I used to love magnums. It’s all about the orange Calippo ice lolly for me at the minute though!
I have ''Try something new Wednesday'', when it comes to cooking dinner
I’m with you on that. Especially on hot days like today!
we do, I try to try a different thing ever so often. Right now am into Vegetarian sushi. nom nom
I've never tried them, we tend to end up eating the same thing over and over, I promise to buy some next shopping
Nothing beats a solero or the similar ones from iceland that are cheaper and just as nice! nom nom
I envy people who live in Scotland or North England, I love the thought of how cold it is
I am magnum guy :D yesterday I had 2
hmm, wish I had some ice cream or lollys in. But believe it or not Scotland is freezing today
I can’t stand the heat but I love the cold. I’m definitely more a fan of the freshness of winter than the heat of summer. I like to have ice packs in the freezer, take cold showers when needed and occasionally put a damp cold flannel on my head/face in order to cool down.
When I get anxious, some of that energy manifests itself as heat, so these things help with that too.
I also happen to be on my 3rd ice lolly of the evening- but that’s not a tactic I should probably promote really!
sunscreen and a hat, and glasses, but stay inside when very hot. Some ice is good to have and drink lots of water.
heat and brightness, living nightmare, curtains in my room are always drawn
16 degree C is optimum for me too. at 20 I'm sweating even doing nothing
but winter time below 14 makes my feet stone cold and I can't sit in front of computer all the time
