Temperature regulation

Hi everyone

Anyone have any tips for 10 year old daughter with ASD who can’t recognise she’s too hot - collected her from school today being sick because it’s so hot today.

She was sitting in jogging bottoms and a jumper, approaching wearing less is difficult.

Anyone have any similar issues

Thanks Blush

  • I do. And I need someone to tell me that I am too hot or check that I have hydrated sufficiently. I struggle to wear anything that isn't long sleeved, so light weight long sleeved tops are very useful. I tend to go for cotton because I struggle with many synthetic materials.

Maybe talk to the school about a check in system. Have a long sleeved single layer top in her bag or at school that she can wear instead, I recognise many schools have uniforms, another option for me that depends on the kind of jumper could be to just wear the jumper and then you have the long sleeves but fewer layers.

In all of this, hydration is really important. If she also struggles to remember to drink, sort out a system with school to check on that too.

  • Thank you that’s really helpful - I need to make sure school are asking her and reminding her to drink. I will try and negotiate clothes with her over the weekend when she’s less overwhelmed- if I give her control she should pick more appropriate clothes.
