Help with school

Hello,

I am new to this community and at my wits end with my children secondary school.

I have children, my 2nd oldest was diagnosed at the beginning of the year with autism. He is 14. Since then my eldest has been referred and my third child is showing indicators. My youngest is still in primary and just had a dyslexia diagnosis with a recommendation for an asd referral.

I had no clue my son could be autistic as all four have the same characteristics, so I really don't know what I'm doing.

Anyway, he is abt to finish year 9 and has a great mentor at school. However the rest of the school is a nightmare.

The sensory overload is too much for him. The senco was meant to write up a plan following a meeting in March, I'm still waiting for it, despite repeated requests.

If his mentor is not in he is left to his own devices and I can barely keep him in school. I was told he couldn't have an education healthcare plan, so that was ruled out.

I don't know what I'm meant to be asking for or what I'm entitled to.

He has constant in school and online bullying that not dealt with. His tutor never replies to emails.

In fact I barely get a response from anyone.

Any advice as to how to deal with the school would be helpful. I don't know what I'm really asking for, but I feel like it's getting harder and harder to keep him in school and they are doing little to help make it easier for him

  • Hi

sorry you are having a hard time.
firstly you are within your rights to expect your child to be able to access a full education.

I would escalate your concerns further up the tree - it maybe your school has a year head or head of pastoral - if they ignore you make a formal complaint to the head teacher.

They should deal with parental concerns and issues that your child is presenting. Don’t be ignored, you are quite within your rights to get help.
