Feeling Exhausted

I feel exhausted this morning. I had a good three hour sleep last night but yesterday I was at this public event and had to do a lot of socialising. I tend to mask for this, have to otherwise couldn't do it. But it's left me exhausted and anxiety is at an all time high. I didn't think I did but I've got to go to another event today this afternoon. So tired of this. Anyone have any tips on how I can not feel so exhausted and anxious about this please?

  • Hi Renna,

I don't have any specific advice but I think it's not surprising you're exhausted. I can't imagine having to face two social occasions in two days after just three hours sleep! If you have a chance during the day for a nap that might help. I usually find that helps me to function a bit better if I've not slept well.

Avoiding sugary foods or too much caffeine is also helpful as they give you a 'lift' but are counterproductive in the longer term and I find just increase any anxiety further. Go for protein to keep you going.

I don't have any good advice regarding social anxiety as I'm the same as you. I got an invitation yesterday to a 60th birthday party in September and I can already feel myself getting anxious about it!! I find masking exhausting too, particularly the non verbal stuff - my face is literally aching after an hour or so of trying to smile and look interested in folks when actually all I want to do is stare off into the distance (whilst still listening of course) but that's not seen as socially acceptable.

Hope it goes OK for you

  • Hi Annie, thank you for replying.

It has been stressful and exhausting! But it's over now and I have tomorrow and Tuesday to rest and relax. Next social time will be Wednesday so that's time to recuperate. I took your advice and had a quick nap, great idea, thanks so much! I felt a lot better after that.

Good shout for protein. I didn't drink or eat anything a few hours before. I felt sick which was half the anxiety and half where my stomach was empty I think. Next time I'll try to at least drink some water.

Omg! I'm sorry you're feeling anxious about the party already. That is so common with anxiety though to feel it months before. It's horrible to experience. Try to breathe and keep calm. You got this Annie. I know exactly what you mean with the aching! Face and muscles hurt from being so tense. I find after having a warm bath can help ease the tense muscles.

It went well thank you :)
