Really at a loss (not a nice post)

Hi there,

I’m new here. I have a 13 year old son who has autism. 
He has just completed his first year in high school, which has gone really well and he has enjoyed. He has plenty of friends and seems to do well at school. 
He has been on his phone more these days, he used to be a gamer on his PlayStation but since starting high school it’s like he has changed with the flick of a switch. He is very private with his phone and does not let me near it. When he goes to football I check through it as he is young still.

Last night while checking through his phone, I looked in his deleted photos/videos and I came across a video (sorry this is so graphic) of him with poo on his penis rubbing it in and then proceeding to eat it and then spit it in the toilet, then saying how much he enjoyed it. I felt absolutely sickened by this, my heart completely sank. I understand he is going through a lot at his age but I just couldn’t believe how dirty this was. I also found a lot of naked photos of women he has found (I have now put a block on the internet to prevent him accessing these) 

I have not talked to him about this at all, I’m really at a loss on what I should do, I feel like I can’t even look at him. Does anyone have any advise? Heard of anything like this before? Maybe it’s a form of masturbation as he doesn’t know what he is doing. Dad was going to talk to him about masturbation.

  • It may be that sexual feelings have been mis-directed towards bodily functions that he understands, though coprophagy is not a common manifestation of undirected sexuality. Sex education in schools is seldom very useful in real life, so any instruction you can give him would be useful, I'm sure there are appropriately targeted books available, doubly useful if they explore the emotional and relationship aspects as well as the merely mechanical. It is often wrongly assumed that teenage boys know instinctively what penises do and how to operate them.
