Name

Names are much nicer, I agree. It helps you to get a better sense of people over time. A lucky few here may have great memories for numbers but I'm hopeless on that score!

there is  a trick how to do that

divide the long number into smaller chunks with 2,3, max 4 digits, so you can sing them as verses of a poem

or chunks that end with the same digit

That's a great trick. I have one for remembering four-digit pins and things: Basically either split it into two years (minus two first digits for the century) that have some meaningful association in your head, and then bring those two memories to mind again. Or assign each single digit an incarnation of the Doctor (Doctor Who as some would call them) and picture some sequence of them interacting. No, not like that - something wholesome. Gets trippy when there's sometimes two of the same incarnation. 

Generally though, I'm just bad with numbers. You sound quite skilled at doing what you describe with relative ease, which I really admire.

I worked in supermarkets for 8 years, a lot of it on a till, it happens often a barcode on a packaging is missing or unreadable, so to distract myself I used to memorise those inbetween customers, then patterns begin to emerge if you know enough many of them
