Wellbutrin (Bupropion) and Asperger's

What are your experiences with Wellbutrin (Bupropion)? I am wondering if it might be more successful than Citalopram.........

  • Hi, I have Aspergers and I have been taking Wellbutrin for about 2 and a half years now. My life has changed completely. I am a student and I can now participate in class, focus better, I do not experience the same degree of overwhelm or have as many meltdowns from stress. I have far more energy. Unlike many users, I did have weight gain at first but that went away after a period. I did experience highly increased anxiety at first and chest pain but I waited it out and I'm very glad that I did because the end result was highly REDUCED anxiety. So my suggestion to anyone who wants to try it, is yes, it works very well (I have other friends with Aspergers who use it as well and report a great help) but be prepared to wait out side effects for a few months. That said, within a week of starting treatment, I noticed a good deal of the social phobia aspects  were removed and I was more free the speak with people. My communication with others was made far easier, but that's hard to explain. The anxiety side effect was more general, random anxiety and it does pass.
