Sleeping at night

Hi all my 3 yr old boy won't sleep in his bedroom we have tried everything and he just screams and hits himself and starts throwing stuff around. We have had to move his cot into the living room but he won't sleep in it, he finally falls asleep on the kitchen floor. We have stopped him sleeping during the day but it doesn't help trying to get him to sleep at a reasonable hour.we also have a 2 yr old who is being effected by his brother. Anyone been through the same.

  • Hi - did he sleep ok in his cot in his bedroom before all this started happening?  Maybe something's upset him + now he can't settle in his bedroom anymore??  Sometimes it's such a puzzle that we can't solve it, even tho we may have theories as to why something's happening.  Is it to do with the cot, the bedroom or perhaps both?  Would he sleep on the sofa?  Sorry for all the questions - they're the things I used to ask myself when my son went thru periods of disrupted sleep + I couldn't work out why!!

When he was under 1 he had disrupted sleep if I didn't follow exactly a routine we had.  When he was a bit older than 1 it was because I put his baby quilt away because the weather was warm + gave him a sheet instead.  When he was about 6 he again had disrupted sleep - don't know why.  I ended up taking him into bed with me, which he loved, but then of course he wouldn't sleep in his own bed.  I decorated his room with paper he liked a lot + told him it was all for him, which he appreciated + he moved back in.  Sometimes we don't know what causes something.  He didn't cry or get angry, he just couldn't settle.

How about testing him out with a new bed - 1 he could choose himself, inc. bedding with perhaps a fav tv character on it.  Maybe a night light if he hasn't already got 1. My son had a pillow with a fav character on it, which he really loved.  Sorry if all these suggestions are useless.  I hope you manage to get back on track soon.
