Do you like Sci-fi?

Just putting in a word for two overlooked BBC  gems of the 80s: Star Cops and The Tripods. Sadly neither got as long a run as was deserved, doubly gutting in The Tripods’ case as they ended on a cliffhanger. 

Do you remember The Day of the Triffids? BBC 1981

Yes! Well, not from the time (I was 4) but I got hold of it on DVD many years ago. It's a good one. I like chasing down all the more obscure cult tv stuff too: things like Nigel Kneale's Beasts (more supernatural) and The Flipside of Dominick Hyde. 

Oh that would have been the 1979 one with John Mills: Quatermass Returns. I've never seen it. I bought the DVD set of the original 1950s ones, but the fact that it's a different actor each time keeps putting me off giving it a spin. I always have a hard time with stuff like that, except in Doctor Who where the change is explained, in-continuity, and part of the strength of the series. 

Remember the live Quatermass in 2005? BBC4. David Tennant and Mark Gatiss were in it, and it was during the final rehearsal that Tennant told Gatiss in secrecy that he got the part on the Doctor.
