mentioning autism in personal statement for uni?

hiya,

I am currently trying to write my personal statement for Uni and wasn't sure if mentioning my autism was a good idea or not. I want to say something like "I read an article on ‘psychology today’ which suggested that the prefrontal cortex, the home of the working memory, is one of the regions of the brain most affected by autism. In my case, autism has given me an incredible memory and an unrelenting focus on my passions, one of which is psychology.".

I'm not sure if mentioning autism is going to have a negative effect. I don't want to limit my chances however at the same time, autism is something which makes me me and it's definitely a major reason why psychology interests me so much. ( I want to study psychology at Uni)

Happy to be of service. All universities are obliged, by law again, to offer any disabled student 'reasonable accommodations', so that their disability does not impact them negatively in comparison to their peers. I'm autistic myself, only diagnosed last year. I enjoyed university, on the whole, but the accommodations now available to my daughter would have been very useful to me.

I had a lot of arrangements, at Uni, but simply lost all enthusiasm for IT at Final Year. Plus, I never has an Entrepreneurial Bone in my Body.

Nowadays, I see the Bizarro World of Enterprise, these days, and no longer partake in the rat-race.

My daughter was diagnosed when she was already at university. After disclosing, she received some useful accommodations from the university - software (mostly for organising, to offset executive function issues), a microphone for recording lectures, 25% longer in exams and having exams in small rooms with only a few other people present. By law, you should not be discriminated against in the application procedure for declaring a disability, which autism is classed as.
