The Young Ones.. so often it's fun to be autistic...

The Young One.. yup! If you remember them you are as old as me...

Replaying now on BBC iplayer.

K, so which ones do we reckon are on the Spectrum...

Not Mike, he's too sauve and savvy. Much too much EQ and knows how to use it.

Rick - so, zero social awareness, obsessed with Cliff Richard's - clearly his special interest and permanently on the verge of, if not actually in actual melt down. And so very 'right on' politically. Defo for me

Neil, well.... chilled, but couldn't organise his way out of a paper bag and soooooo moral, but zero idea about personal hygiene. Certainly has traits, but very touchy feely though. Dyspraxic maybe?

Viv oh dear, don't know what to make of him. Melt down material too, but not quite autistic...ADHD perhaps??? Very bright but zero attention span and short temper.

Good God! Am I seeing myself in my university days? At least I didn't fail. Got to laugh when we see ourselves, huh? There must be a reason I loved that show...apart from Alexie Sale, who was way to sensible for me.

Lol

  • I never watched The Young Ones but when I was more involved in online Doctor Who fandom, some fans with ADHD dubbed David Tennant the ADHDoctor.  Since my diagnosis, I've been wondering who the most autistic Doctors are.  Probably most of them show some symptoms, but particularly Peter Capaldi (for completely blunt tactlessness) and Tom Baker (for general eccentric weirdness).

I recently watched the original The Twilight Zone, and that had quite a few characters that could be read as on the spectrum, unfortunately mainly comic relief or 'lovable loser' ones.
