Swearing

Good Evening, my daughter who has ASD is increasingly using bad language. Its normally when she's having a meltdown or when she's angry or upset. Just lately it's getting ridiculous to the point every other word is a swear word. Doesn't matter what I do or say it makes no difference. Also when she's mid meltdown there's no reasoning with her so she won't stop.

Anyone else experience this?

Thank you

  • My daughter swears a lot. Including in normal everyday conversation.
It became apparent early on that it was best to ignore it.
There is no reasoning with anyone mid meltdown, so save yourself the stress and don’t try. Let her ride it out, and maybe then suggest she might think about lessening the bad language. Don’t make it a big thing though, or she’ll naturally resist.

  • How old is she?

If she's ten, or older, it would be reasonably normal.

My brother was a typical Gamer, who cussed in the usual American hyperbole, but is now a successful IT Graduate; planning his own project with a mate of his.
