ODD?

My Son is five and can have meltdowns or ignore us even on occasions do things if we tell him not to. My sister who’s a SENCO in a primary school  believes he has PDA, she’s both learnt and come across it. My husband thinks it’s ODD but our son has speech and language delay and can’t argue with us verbally which I thought was a symptom being able to argue verbally. We are awaiting ASD assesment so maybe we need to ask at he’s assessment?

  • I think you should probably leave your child's diagnosis to the professionals. By all means bring it up as a query but I wouldn't push hard for a particular diagnosis. Also if he does have PDA its not likely to be diagnosed as such PDA is generally considered a form of autism and diagnostically old terms like Aspergers, high / low functioning autism and PDA generally get diagnosed as autism except for a hand full of places that specialise in PDA.
