Diagnosis

Hi I’ve always thought my son had slight autism and was referred to Camhs who have made an assessment and diagnosed him.  My son is 13 and I’ve tried to talk to him about it but he’s in denial, so upset and angry and saying he doesn’t have it.

I’ve tired explaining but he’s having none of it, I wish I hadn’t have referred him now but his anxiety is off the scale and he doesn’t do anything except be in his room gaming.

any thoughts?

Parents
  • My son avoids telling school friends as he doesn't want to be seen as different. He has also said he wishes he didn't have it. Teachers at school know so they can make allowances but not friends.

He spends a lot of time gaming but it helps him switch off from difficult things in the world around.

Occasionally he joins us to do something together, mostly at home.
