Fostering

Does anybody know if having autism affects your chances of being allowed to foster? My husband and I are in the middle of the fostering process but we're not sure if me being autistic will be a hurdle in the process. I'm already a mum, my daughter I gave birth to naturally but I'm no longer able to have children so fostering is the next best thing. I know autism affects so much of my life but overall I think I'm a good mum. My daughter is very happy and we have such a special bond. We should hear back about our fostering application soon and I'm really worried because at the last teams meeting my autism was mentioned and since then I've felt really worried in case they decline us because of me. I hope I'm just overthinking it and we'll be ok but I do worry in case the autism means we can't.

  • I think you could stress this gives you the ability to foster autistic children being that you can Relate to their needs much more INTUITIVELY than someone who isn't. I believe this could be important to stress. Aucademy gave a talk this evening which started with how crucial it is to understand the impact of environment for Autistic Individuals.
