It's a myth that people with ASC don't have any humour, I find some things so funny. Today on gumtree in the freebies (free to collect) section people were advertising the most funny things, such as a quarter of a pint of milk, an A1 battery and a paperclip.

  • Yes it is a myth, certainly for higher functioning. We don't always get jokes but plenty of people have kinds of jokes they don't get.  Possibly when we are younger and have less understanding of social situations there are more jokes we don't get. As we get older and learn somethings intellectually that others have learnt more intuitively, we get more kinds of jokes.  Many jokes are based on the something happening that was not your expectation, for these to work you have to have created the 'false' expectation first. If it is something we don't understand and don't know what is supposed to happen next, or that the words have multiple meanings, then we will not find the outcome funny, but we are just as capable of finding things funny.
