Music movie and Sia

Did anyone watch the movie Music or heard about the controversy?

Apparently she badly misrepresented autistic people and then doubled down and said a lot of things that pissed people off.

I've only just heard about it, wondering what others think. I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLBl3he3Nqg

Also do you think it is acceptable to cast a non-autistic person as an autistic character?

  • The problem is not really with the casting or the actor if the script misrepresents the character. A good actor should be a bit of chameleon.

  • Another sparkling review:

It seems its not just Sia though, everything fro Big Bang Theory to Rainman to Predator... less than 10% of those with autism display Rainman like intelligence and I didn't catch the % of those at the other end. The above review points out just how the industry pick and choose, and end up at one or other end, disregarding the fact its a spectrum. I'm keen to watch the new autism drama series on Prime, as I'm hoping with more than one autistic character, we may finally get a more varied view of "the spectrum".

  • I think it is entirely acceptable for non-autistic actors to play autistic characters, as long as they do a good job and the available autistic actors were unsuitable. An actor's job is to pretend to be another person, the present trend of 'you have to be what you portray' has become stupid. Plus it is applied unfairly, you can cast a black actor as Macbeth, but not a white actor as Othello. Roles should be cast purely on ability.

  • The pinning her down scenes seem terrible. That would be my idea of hell and the worst thing you could do to invade my space like that, get on top of me, put your face right into mine and make me unable to move.
