Hi everyone,
Just a quick introduction, I am a community worker and I mainly work with young teenagers from all different walks of life. I am mainly at the moment once a week working with 4 teenagers at mainstream high school in the UK who have autism/ADHD.
Basically, the young people come to our community center once a week from 9 am to 3 pm instead of school that day. The school has asked for me to facilitate more group work sessions, and recently over the last year, I have done a lot of different pieces of work with the small group.
Really, I am finding it difficult to get them to engage in work that would encourage confidence building, etc. The group loves doing art and expressing themselves through the means of art, which I love and it's really nice to see this. Although it doesn't fit the curriculum the school would like to see bigger progress in their individual experiences.
I was wondering if anyone on here had any ideas or resources they could share that would allow me to make these sessions more meaningful to these young people. I have done a lot around art and outdoor things like bushcraft skills, gardening and just learning to enjoy the outdoors.
Anything at all would be extremely helpful and hopefully allow this group to make progress in their self esteem and confidence around others.
