Hi both - my son is very nervous about going out at certain times to certain places because he has a hyper-sensitivity to certain noises. We are giving a lot of thought about what we do about that to help him. It's really interfering with his daily enjoyment of life. We feel so sorry for him. Do you know why your chidren get so upset to the point of shouting out and/or having self-injurous behaviour? It can be extremely difficult to work that out, as I know from experience. It will be related to some kind of sensory overload. Noise in general or only certain noises? Over-stimulation in general or specifically such as bright lights, crowds, fear of the unknown etc? It can need a massive stretch of our imaginations + acute observation to get to the bottom of things sometimes so I do sympathise, but it needs to be done so we can empathise + help.
