Hi,
I start work as a library assistant on Saturday and I am so nervous! I don't know what to expect and I like to plan my days and obviously, I cannot do that because I don't know what they will want me to do. I am going to have to talk to people for 7 hours!
basically, I want to know what to expect... what usually happens on the first day of a job?

I hope you're enjoying your new job :) I've thought about working in a library before, have you found that it uses a lot of the practical parts of your autism? Like organising?
I am enjoying my job thanks. I even worked some overtime this week.
Yeah, I absolutely love shelving because I get to organize the books in alphabetical order and I have had a lot of practice of that as I keep all my books and DVDs in alphabetical order anyway (have done for as long as I can remember). it's also really quiet which is nice because I struggle with busy places.
I'm glad you're enjoying your job :)
Is there a part of working in the library where you need to talk to the public? Or is all that done by screen now?
Ahh fantastic!
yeah, I do talk to the public however it's the same stuff every time (they want to join/don't have their library card/need to pay a fine) so I have created a script for it so I don't need to worry about talking to them.
