starting a new job!!!!!!

Hi,

I start work as a library assistant on Saturday and I am so nervous! I don't know what to expect and I like to plan my days and obviously, I cannot do that because I don't know what they will want me to do. I am going to have to talk to people for 7 hours!

basically, I want to know what to expect... what usually happens on the first day of a job?

  • I've worked at the library before. You'll be taught things and you'll learn as you go.

Basically, you'll handle library fines, and there might be a computer printing fee that you'll have to inform people about.

Many things are electronic and automated now, so there might be a self-check out place, where people can just check out books by themselves now, and fortunately there will be less people talking to you.

You'll learn the dewey decimal system, and the number tells you which category to book belongs to (art, language, religion, science, etc.) and then you'll shelve books based on the author's last name in alphabetical order.

I don't know if all libraries do this, but mine put clear plastic coverings on the book covers to keep them durable for longer.

And then there might be an opening and closing procedure, where you'll set up things in the morning, and then tidy up the place at night.

And congratulations on your new job!
