Lip /tongue biting when eating

Has anyone else had a problem with biting lip/tongue when eating?

I've found as I get older, I've started doing this, especially if try to think hard or figure something out at the same time as eating.

I'm talking about quite serious bites. Really hurts.

My brother says he started doing it to, although he's older than me.

  • Yes, it's very painful. I sometimes accidentally bite my cheek if I eat when I'm tired. And it happened a lot when my wisdom teeth were coming through.

  • Well, I bite my lip/tongue/cheek if my jaw is at a certain angle and it "locks" and makes me automatically bite down hard. Usually this happens if my mouth is open while chewing, which creates all kinds of angles and opportunities for my jaw to lock. So I have to close my mouth while chewing, but I forget sometimes.

Also I think that as we age, our teeth, bones, and jaw alignment might change over time, so that slight shift might be causing problems. Anyways, it's probably something to ask a doctor about.
