Edwin and bathing

Hello this is my first post . I have a 3 year old grandchild Edwin who has been diagnosed with mild autism.I want to be some kind of support to my daughter who has good days and bad days with Edwin . The latest challenge is he hates having a bath he screams the place down and makes it very difficult for my daughter to bathe him she has bought bath toys but all he does is lauch tham out of the bath, a few months ago he loved bathing I should mention she has another child Evelyn who is not autistic

  • Has your daughter tried Batheing with him maybe he is just scared in there by himself.

  • Hi Edwins nanna - welcome to the site.  I seem to remember reading in another post (do a search on the posts to check) that their child was upset with the water/plughole.  If I remember correctly they built things up gradually.  Sitting in the bath with a really really small amount of water + maybe some toys.  Showing the little one that the toys couldn't go down the plughole by having the toys in the bath + then letting the water out.  Day by day building up the water level little by little.  If it all proves too difficult right now, then as long as his body gets washed, even if it's an "all over wash" standing at the basin, then that might have to do.  He'll be genuinely scared so taking away the fear is the key to progress.  Others with more experience than me will reply.  bw
