I noticed a petition on the Scottish Parliament's petitions website.  The petition is titled "PE1870: Ensure teachers of autistic pupils are appropriately qualified", and can be found at the following hyperlink:

  • I don't want to be an a**hole, but a qualification can soon become outdated or be taught in such a way that allows the learners to interpret the content which can have just as a negative effect on autistic individuals than being taught by someone who hasn't a clue about autism or other disorders or disabilities.

these specialist schools popping up all over the UK sound and look like good ideas but they are basically often daycare facilities for children across the autism spectrum including the gifted and talented ones. If they do accommodate the gifted and talented ones they will soon lose government funding to support these children properly and their learning will be stunted or halted by funding restrictions..

I also don't want to mention it but the amount of abuse that has came out a decade later revealing that specialist qualified teacher & teaching assistants abusing autistic students in specialist classes and schools is hideous. often the schools staff close rank and support each other to make the autistic student look like trouble.

Neurodevelopmental disorders and learning disabilities needs to incorporated in depth in the general teaching qualification. Instead of segregating autistic children they adapt mainstream schools to accommodate better.
