Background conversations

Does anyone else have the inability to carry on a conversation with the person in front of you if there are other conversations going on in the background?
No matter how much I try and focus on the conversation with the person in front of me, I can’t seem to tune out the other conversations and it results in me going blank, getting flustered and struggling to remember what I was just talking about and also struggling to find the words to continue the conversation.

Do any of you know what this inability is called? Tried looking it up to make sense of it but can’t find an accurate match to my experiences.

Thanks.

  • I've found that it's accents that burn my brain - sitting in a room of Portuguese women where their voices are almost musical is no problem.    Hard, staccato voices like Scottish on Northern Irish jumble up my processing abilities.    The pulse-frequency of the voices interrupts my natural frequencies.
