Autistic Adult or Adult with Autism? Why?

New to this site.

Just wanted to start a light hearted discussion to get your views.

Some take offence to one or the other so I am wondering...

Do you prefer the term Autistic Adult or Adult with Autism?

Why do you feel this way?

Or are you not bothered?

  • I strongly prefer "autistic adult" but the way I deal with this sort of situation is to use "autistic adult" by default unless the autistic person clearly says that they prefer "adult with autism" instead of "autistic adult". It's important to respect personal preferences and they do differ amongst the autistic community, however, most prefer "autistic adult".
