Autistic Adult or Adult with Autism? Why?

New to this site.

Just wanted to start a light hearted discussion to get your views.

Some take offence to one or the other so I am wondering...

Do you prefer the term Autistic Adult or Adult with Autism?

Why do you feel this way?

Or are you not bothered?

  • I'm an autistic adult because "adult with autism" sounds like someone doesn't like the fact that I'm autistic. I don't dislike that I'm a woman, so I'm not a person with womanhood. I'm a shortsighted person, not a person with shortsightedness. I am autistic and I am not ashamed.

    But I will always respect individual preferences.
