Something that helped my son very much was about body language. They miss up to 97% of a conversation because they do not learn body language. I started my son on Pink Panther cartoons because there are no words, you have to keep watching. I would sit and watch tv with him often and we would go over why someone said that, what did they mean, why did they make that face, etc. Then i started using silent films, like Buster Keaton, which are short with few words to read, again all overacting you can discuss. I always kept close captioning on when they watched anything so he was always seeing the written word as he watched tv so he was able to transition to foreign films quite easily. Again, requires total concentration. As long as you discuss it with them as if you like the show as well they will never know you are trying to teach them, although my son is still grateful when i am teaching him something and sometimes i have to tell him that is what i am doing (he is 26 now)
