nature and autism

My interest has always been the natural world  animals  ,plants all things natural , from ants to early man always been fascinated by the living world .

I don't hear much about this part of autism , [have only found one ref in a text book] ,but you look at the victorians  it was full of eccentric bug cataloguers and people on tv at the moment in the animal world .

I also have met a lot of autistic plant growers .

I was wondering if it was just the detail involved or more to it than that.

I love the patterns in nature ,the ebb and flow of the seasons ,how everything is so symbiotic .

  • Mael,

Just about everything you've shared is to do with how the autistic mind works.

Just like your lifetime interest in nature, I've had a lifetime interest in Autism which is why I know so much about Autism, there's no doubt in my mind you're extremely knowledgeable about all living things.

Because of variation in the occipital lobes at the back of our brain our minds work in a systematic way. All the things in nature as you know follow a life cycle (system/pattern/routine).

Autistic minds are very in tune with sensory input while nonautistic are out of tune. Since we're in tune with what we're sensing we're in the moment seeing the world as what it actually is, seeing nature as what it actually is.

Nonautistic people have some kind of fixated perceptions of what reality is, but since reality changes moment by moment they remain locked in and blinded by their perceptions, reality, nature is no longer what they perceived it to be ten seconds ago but they think it still is.

When I take a walk I always see things like leaves on the trees are a little greener than last time (detail), each time you go somewhere I bet you sense what things have changed no matter how little. Autistic minds are critically detailed.

Those of us Autistic are more conscious of things while nonautistic people are on the autopilot (subconscious), that's why so many problems in the world are solved by Autistic minds. Einstein pointed out that we cannot solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that caused the problem, that we must go out of the box.

Psychologist William James taught; "Thoughts become perception, perception becomes reality. Alter your thoughts, alter your reality."

Sincenonautistic people are living with their own perceptions they live in their own created version of reality while we live in actual reality.

  • yes people always seem not to understand me , It's like they are ahead of me in my brain but went down the wrong path .

My reality is always changing ,my favourite one is when you walk along and the world seems really small and far away but when i touch it i merge with it ,so it feels like i am walking on sponge and merging with the ground always a content happy feeling ,only happens rarely.

Also colour changes alot i'm colour blind and the world is a vivid mixture , red grass, pink hedges  it all looks different from day to day .
