Global development delay, 24yrs female

I’m a 24 yr old female and the past year and a bit my GP suggested that I may have autism. I had the assessments the last couple months and today we found out the answer. They say I have autistic traits and Global Development Delay which I got diagnosed with as a child. I also have other issues such as mental health and visual impairment etc.
they say I have traits of autism but not fully autistic as my traits are from the GDD and I don’t have autism.

has anyone had any issue like this?

We believe I have autism as it makes sense for me and now I feel like we’re back to square one and I’m just being parmed off cos I have the GDD diagnosis as a child and there blaming that

there also saying cos I can communicate and know social cues it isn’t autism and the test I done I got them all right which they asked me stuff and I had answer if someone done something wrong and how the person felt etc

  • Is there something about the difference between an autism diagnosis and a GDD that would lead to a different practical outcome for you - e.g. being offered needed accommodations, easier to communicate with doctors/others who don't realise you're struggling, access to support groups? Would autism suggest greater adulthood difficulties than GDD, that would cause problems if not identified?

If you feel like the first assessment (NHS, I presume?) wasn't thorough, it could be worth looking into a second opinion. Might be worth being selective about where to go for assessment, see if you can find somewhere that might have expertise in telling GDD from autism/women/co-morbid mental health.
