Support/Advices while waiting for assessment ?

Hi !

So I am new on the forum and waiting for my assessment. I am on a waiting list for at least 18 months with an nhs service. I also applied privately with an other service with who I feel more confident and which should take about 6 months of waiting in total. I am waiting for this private service to tell me if they accept me on their waiting list or not (their answer should come this week).

I am unemployed since 7 months although really passionate with visual merchandising. My professional life just feels unberable (I can't manage my anxiety and always get bullied) and that's why I really feel like I need this diagnosis.

But all this waiting is making me feel really anxious (obviously having doubts about a positive or negative diagnosis) and I have been depressed for a while now. So does anyone have advice of what to do while waiting (for someone unemployed) ? Or know any support group ? Can we apply for a support group without a diagnosis ? Anything could help, even talking to someone going through something similar.

  • Even with diagnosis I have had no more support mental health wise than before.  I think there is very little in the way of speicfic mental health support groups for autistic adults.  Most of the support groups I come across tend to be about trying to help autistic adults  with day to day living and taking trips out or socialising not specific support groups for ental health which is annoying.  You can talk to your GP about mental health issues and they can refer you to local support services but they can also take a while to be seen on and if they are any good is pot luck depending where you live.  My doctors only refer me to the local Anxiety and Depression services which have not really been much use to me, but worth trying.

  • Oh I see. Thank you very much for your answer and your suggestions. I'll might just try to ask my gp then
