Star trek and culture

My mom hated star trek and never let me watch it when me and my twin were little.

so many people the world over love it though. both star trek and star wars are classics yet i have never seen either. Where should i start? are they as worth it as people say they are? I dont get a lot of culture references to begin with and if I’m missing a good amount because i dont know these films then i would like to catch up.

and if reading this something pops into your head: what other movies and shows are very prominently referenced in culture? I probably wouldn't know them either

  • Do it sequentially - the original Start Trek is a classic that almost ALL later series can trace their episode plots back to.    It's very 'of its time' so gung-ho captain-  very 'Murrican - gets the girls and kills the bad guys.

STNG (Next Generation) - technically better but really wandering the universe as intergalactic social workers.

ST Voyager - clever but slow and tedious.

Enterprise-  don't bother - cheap scripts.

Star Wars-  absolute classics - watch the original trilogy ep.4,5&6.  'A New Hope' to 'Return of the Jedi'.      If you *really* like them, maybe watch ep. 1,2&3

Forget the rest of the later ones when Disney took over - utter PC preachy left-wing propaganda garbage - terrible in every way.    Totally forgettable, lazy scripts, wooden actors-  I could go on but I'm getting PTSD flashbacks from them.

When my daughter was little, I used to record classic films and tv episodes just to show her the bits she needed to see that would be made into a parody years later - like the original King Kong film of him climbing the Empire State building at the end or the original Planet of the Apes when he found the Statue Of Liberty at the end - "You maniacs, you blew it up...."
