Does anyone here get actually get any help from NAS ?

My experience is you ask for help and they send you a bucketload of PDF'S of other organisations. Am I wrong to have expected more ?

The chief executive gets paid 140 grand a year, is it right that someone can live in luxury on that kind of salary from charitable donations ? Not even counting the other 20 people on stupid salaries comes to over 2 million quid ...no doubt plus expenses.

I thought charities existed to help others but obviously they are more interested in helping themselves.

  • There are plenty of independent ASD support organisations and websites out there that are often more useful and helpful than the NAS is. You just have to search around. One issue that I have come up against is that the British overwhelmingly have a 'supermarket' mentality and want everything under one roof rather than using different organisations for different things.

    My local Asperger syndrome support group offers many services that the NAS generally doesn't provide including:

    1. A facility for children and teenagers to meet up weekly.

    2. Advice with CV writing and job interviews.

    3. Help with home education.

    4. Training children how to ride a bike.

    5. Teaching various life skills and social skills.

    6. A resource library.

    All on a far more limited budget with no government funding.
