Is anyone here getting any help from NAS ?

Does anyone here get actually get any help from NAS ?

My experience is you ask for help and they send you a bucketload of PDF'S of other organisations. Am I wrong to have expected more ?

The chief executive gets paid 140 grand a year, is it right that someone can live in luxury on that kind of salary from charitable donations ? Not even counting the other 20 people on stupid salaries comes to over 2 million quid ...no doubt plus expenses.

I thought charities existed to help others but obviously they are more interested in helping themselves.

  • hi - depends on what you're looking for from the nas. I'm sure there will be areas where the nas can do better.  Maybe they should reappraise how they spend some of the income.  Should more money be put into staffing the phone lines?  How much pressure, in the sense of number of calls, is there on the people who answer the phones now?   Should another budget heading be cut - if so which 1 ?  When my son was diagnosed most people weren't online.  You had to go to the library + hope they had a book there.  After a year thinking my son's autism was caused by bad parenting, because of the book I found in the library, I managed to find the nas + join.  I was a single parent + on benefits.  The nas paid for me to attend a weekend conference with my son.  It was for families with newly diagnosed under 5's.  They even arranged a life for us there + back.  So, yes, when the nas board holds their agm I think they should agree to investigate the best ways of spending their budget, altho I think they probably do something similar already.  In the end the Board decides.
