Never did well in school.

I will admit that primary and high school were not my most favourite times, Primary school was the worst I would say If the teachers cared about students wellbeing and understood that some students have difficulty. then the help would be much easier to get. One teacher in primary school always yelled and got angry because of my handwriting/spelling mistakes, not being able to do maths. I was tested for Dyslexia, ADD, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and autism at the age of 4 and I wasn't diagnosed till I was age 20. So I don't know why it was never brought up then, In high school. I was there for 5 years and only passed Music, history and biology and just passed English, I failed all the other classes. The teachers just thought I was lazy and didn't take into account that I have learning difficulties. I know I'm not the only one who has had difficulties in high school or education in general.

Did anyone else had trouble in school maybe difficulties in certain classes?

  • I did okay in school. Exam results show me as an average student, school reports show me as someone who never tried hard enough (unless I particularly enjoyed the project/subject). Shrug‍♂️

I don't really remember much about how I coped in primary school, aside from me being absolutely abysmal at maths - mainly anything involving mental arithmetic (I'm 37 and never fully memorised my times tables and often have to count on my fingers).

I definitely struggled more in high school. In my GCSE years I think I was the only student not in a remedial class that had to go to the supervised study sessions they put on for kids teachers thought might fail. I was allowed to drop one of my GCSEs (Business Studies) because I just wasn't getting it.

I decided to stay on for Sixth Form, mainly due to anxiety about going to a different college and not knowing anybody, and eventually dropped two of my A levels subjects too because I couldn't keep up with them. Rolling eyes

Somehow I have managed to keep my old school reports safe over the years, and reading through them recently it is kind of frustrating that nobody thought I might need more help than I got. I guess I can forgive them a little as my primary school years were like 1988 to 1994 so things weren't as understood then as they are now, and by the time I was at high school it was basically too late for anybody to notice my issues (especially since by then I'd learnt to keep them to myself out of fear of ridicule).

But anyway that's apparently my ramble for the day. lol
