Mood altering drugs - good or bad?

SSRI's such as Citralopram are used to alter someones mood. Does this in turn make it harder to identify the causes of phsychological/physiological problems such as depression and anxiety? Therefore making them most unhelpful?

    with most people things like

sitting alone, not appearing to do anything much,

not going out, not being talkative, not reacting to people or news

would be taken as signs of depression, sometimes people think I am depressed because I behave like this but I think this is the real me, I am only comfortable in this mode and given the choice I would much rather be like this than partying.

Also in this state when you dont have lots of urges to do things or get excited about the latest thought that randomly enters you mind you can hold a train of thought and concentrate more clearly, Its like a clear day on a calm sea, you can see farther.

I know this isnt what a lot of people mean by depression, in a sense that I dont have any anxiety and I dont think things are bad, but I do have a strong feeling that everything is pointless or meaningless.

......so when you say you 'like being depressed' you don't actually mean that after all......

Using your rather whimsical interpretation of the word depression you say that you 'like being depressed', that you have 'a strong feeling that everything is pointless or meaningless'. If you indeed mean 'everything' then how can you 'like' that?

I like not going out, sitting alone (but doing something) and not talking. This can make me very happy. I can also do these things and be very depressed.

I can be happy and also have no urge to do things or get excited about the latest thought that randomly enters my mind.

Depression generally has a negative effect upon my thinking.
