Can't sleep and depressed

I've had sleep problems as long as I can remember, the reasons vary, but now it's getting worse.  So is my depression, even good news doesn't cheer me up.

Today I had over £200 of my water debt written off.  And I'm still depressed as hell,  the good news had no effect on my mood.

I sometimes only get four or five hours sleep at night. And I'm tired during the day.  But I just can't sleep at night.  I can't risk sleeping tablets because I might overdose in a fit of depression.

Rant over for now, anyway.

  • Another of my sleeping problems is an on/off buzzing or humming noise coming from my neighbours flat.

I live in a first floor flat, so I suspect the noise could be coming from one of five flats, above, below or directly opposite.

It's been going on for several months, I've complained to the letting agent, my complaints have been ignored.  Because of the virus the letting agent has not carried out any of his quarterly inspections since March.

The noise could be mechanical or electronic.  The best way to describe it is that it's like trying to sleep next to a fridge or a freezer switching on and off.

It's not from outside because when I open the window I cannot hear it outside.

Another strange fact about the noise is that it never occurs during daylight, just at night.  My sister has suggested that it could be some kind of artificial light that is off during daylight.  And only needs to on  at night.  One of my mental health employment advisors has suggested that the neighbours could be growing drugs.

I don't know any of my neighbours from that side of the flat because they have a separate entrance.

I'm at a loss what to do.  Complain? To who? The neighbours? Which one? Council? Police?

I thinking of moving my bed around, away from the wall.

8:40am and the sun is coming out.  The humming noise has stopped and I am writing this in total silence.  Now I can sleep.

  • I have moved my bed at right angles to it's original position, moved all the other furniture and the rugs. The humming noise is quieter in this position.  Hopefully it will not keep me awake.

  • put rubber coasters under each foot if its coming from below  -  or 4 argos catalogues as an experiment
