Tier madness

Like the title of one of my favourite films, it's a mad mad mad mad world.

So mad, that I feel almost normal.

Here I am sitting at home all alone in tier 3, well it is still tier 3 today Tuesday 22 December 2020, I don't know what the situation will be tomorrow!

Over the past few weeks I've been listening to the insanity and arguments from local politicians over what needs to happen for us to move to tier 2.

  1.  A senior councillor from the nearby town of Skipton, who are in tier 2 has publicly said that tier 3 people should be shot on sight in order to protect his town. 
  2. The nearby town of Harrogate has suggested setting up police road blocks to prevent people from my town entering their territory and infecting them.
  3. A TV report from the town of Beverly ( in East Yorkshire) showed a woman in a local cafe in a state of panic because a party of customers spoke in a west Yorkshire accent.

These are just examples from towns I used to enjoy visiting and photographing.  Now I just stay at home and photograph my local area.

Latest news is that instead of moving to tier 2, we may be moving to tier 4 next week.

Are there tiers 5, 6 and 7 on the horizon?

Back in March, I  fully expected the lockdown to last around three weeks, four weeks maximum.

Today I plan to risk travel by bus, first time in two weeks, to restock my supplys.  My local area has only a limited number of stores. So it's the city centre I go, before that's locked down.  I actually managed to avoid all bus travel for three months, late March to June.  I took the lockdown seriously.

  • Did you know that you can colour any map using just 4 colours with never having 2 adjacent areas the same colour?

    The game is with 4 tiers, you can lock the entire country down but still have people in tier 2 or 3 so it's mathematically the same as having everyone on tier 4 while causing internal conflict and paranoia - brilliant!

    I consider it to be a modified 4 colour problem.  But I'm confused about the present map.

    I think adjacent counties should be the same colour or differ by only one tier.

    So from tier 2 we can only go to 1, 2 or 3.  Not 4.

    But on the map we can step directly from tier 2 to 4.  That's not logical.  There should be tier 3 counties as a buffer zone between 2 and 4.
