Mucking around with Opencore, or rather it's mucking around with me. A little bit out of my depth tbh, I usually am with these things, just about managing to muddle my way to a working system through dogged perseverance and luck more than skill. I'm not a complete n00b to the general concept mind you, having been successfully using Clover for several years now, dabbled with Chimera before that and even iBoot probably a decade or more ago. My current hackintosh (upon which I am typing this very second) has been fully working since Mojave was released in 2018 and it hasn't missed a beat, so not a complete waste of time! Good exercise for the grey matter on those days where I've got nothing better to do.
I'll be heading out tomorrow to hopefully pick up a shiny new Nvidia GPU to replace my tired old GTX 980 ti. Anyone who follows tech will know about the situation with scalpers and the near total lack of availability. I managed to snag one locally at a reasonable enough price. Ok I paid a bit more than retail, but yeah, retail is only useful when they actually have a product to deliver. And in any case, the few retailers who can get a hold of stock have themselves been jacking up prices, due to demand they can pretty much ask what they want. Never let a good crisis go to waste I suppose. And at the moment it's like a convergence of crises with everything that's going on in the world, a total *** show lol.
Testing out the RTX 3070 today on some games and applications my old 980 ti would struggle with at 3440x1440. So much performance in a small package, and a huuuuge upgrade. Absolutely worth it if you can lay your hands on one.
