Annoying questions

What do you do when someone asks you to explain what it means to be on the autism spectrum? I've recently been diagnosed with Aspergers and I am still learning what does it mean. I've always known that I am an outsider and don't fit but it was more of a gut feeling. Now I have it on paper. However, I still need to learn a lot about myself. Questions like:

"do you think differently? how do you do that, give me examples" - difficult to answer because my thinking is completely normal for me

"so what do you struggle with?" - I am anxious to answer this one because usually afterwards I hear that everyone can have these struggles

They drive me crazy! And due to my lack of confidence and my very impressionable character (which I hate), I tend to believe that my diagnosis is wrong.

I need some simple and solid answer

  • When I go for a job interview and when they ask me. "So tell me a little bit about yourself". I always hesitate and stutter and never say anything, But in gerneral. When someone askes me to explain something I only give little details because I always struggle to explain things in full.

  • The fist time that I was asked at a job interview, 'tell me about yourself?", I had a silent breakdown, the only thought in my head was, "mind your own bloody business" and I couldn't wait to get out of there as quickly as possible.

  • Yeah, I mean I don't panic over it, I just stay quiet and let it slide,

  • Yeah - they want to know what type of person you are so it would be fairly easy to cough out a generic story that gives them a good impression of you and makes you sound like the person they need to employ.

Think of it as a 'performance piece' audition like an actor would present.

  • you would need to learn of a piece of text that you can regurgitate when this question comes up.  It is abit like allowing someone read your profile so they are getting to know you better and sometimes it is asked to help get you speaking in the interview
