DLA claimant newly diagnosed as Asperger's

Hi

I have an indefinite award of DLA, and have just been diagnosed as having Asperger's.

I was going to notify them as a change in circumstances but then I read that the PIP assessors are doing humiliating telephone assessments even on autistic people.

I also heard that the new "light touch" reviews for autistic people were not coming out until 2023.

I hate using the telephone for stressful conversations.

I can't think of anything worse than an un-announced call from a private company telling me they are assessing me for PIP.

Can anyone advise me what I should do, should I notify them I am newly diagnosed or will this just call their attention to me to phone me up?

  • Is Asperger Syndrome a sufficient reason to get PIP?  I do get DLA as when I was living in a group home in the 1990s the social worker filled the form in saying I cannot cook a meal.  I expect I will sooner or later lose my DLA as the rules for PIP mean it will be reviewed again.  I was granted DLA indefinitely but with the change of law, it does not mean anything.
