Introduce yourself (part one)

Hi everyone,

We thought we'd create a discussion where people can say hello and introduce themselves.

You don't have to say something here but it'd be nice to get a chance to say hello Smile

Please remember that you should not share personal details (such as emails or phone numbers) to protect your privacy.

And don't feel you have to introduce yourself, it's entirely up to you and please only share what you're comfortable with.

  • I am Mum to 3 children on the spectrum. My son who is 5 has a diagnosis of ASD, My daughter who is 12 has diagnoses of Aspergers, ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia and my oldest daughter who is 15 has a diagnosis of Aspergers and is one of the young campaigners for the NAS.

We have been through 4 tribunals and one judicial review trying to get the right education for our children and to fight to get our daughters out of mainstream school... All the battling worked as they are all statemented now and in specialist provisions and doing really well. (writing it like that made it sound really easy and it most certainly wasn't!!) Anyway, I just wanted to come in and say hi to you all :0)

  • Hi Mandie,

  • Hello everyone,

Been meaning to join for ages... quite why I am getting round to it at 1.20am on a Saturday morning beats me!

I'm mum to twin sons who are both on the spectrum - they're 7 years old and as different as chalk and cheese!  My OH and I both work from home part-time, and we home educate. Which is a challenge, but it mostly works very well for all of us.

Looking foward to joining in and getting to know people.

  • Hello Bo_22 and welcome to the community.  I hope that you find it interesting and helpful.

If anything about the discussion forum is confusing, just ask, and one of us will try to help you as much as we can.

You might want to ask your question about your brother in a separate thread so that more members see it. Smile

  • Hey All !!!

Im new on this, just today so am a tad confused haha!

My little brother has suspected Aspergers so I want to get to grips with all of this as he is very hard to understand sometimes & its extremely upsetting in how he finds what we take as normal everyday doings ..... very hard to get on with :( BUT its un-humanly clever when it comes to computers/ps3's etc and with his school work! Its a very strange thing i must say,,,!!!

Any help with this would be very much appreciated !!!!! :D x

  • Hello Denyse

  • Hello,

I'm not sure how often I will be able tog et on here because I work fulltime and am often too overloaded to do anything after work but as I am only having to work 1 day a week for the next 2 weeks I thought I would join in a bit.

  • Hello all, I'm a new member today, have never been in a forum before so bear with me. I have a 5year old boy and been told today that he is/has ASD leaning towards the Aspergers but cannot give full diagnosis of Aspergers as his vocabulary is not good enough, although at 3 1/2 he had grommetts fitted which delayed his speech.

I have 2 other younger children 3 1/2yrs and 1year.  I am looking forward?? to understanding more from the community about his diagnosis, and how to support his needs, but not at the detriment of my other two. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Nice to meet you

  • And welcome to Mayhem too! Wink Thanks for dropping by.

Life is a crazy mix of ups and downs, juggling routines and LOTS of coffee!!

  • Hi to all.

Ive worked with adults with autism for 9 years now, and I'm glad I have somewhere to go to have discussions about various things and have fresh ideas thrown at me.  Sometimes when you are in the thick of it, you don't see the obvious.  Looking forward to picking some brains.

  • Hi Pageant
sorry to hear that you are feeling like an isolated minority. Unfortunately the NAS message board community do not allow the sharing of personal contact details, however, if you do wish to find local services in your area perhaps the directory would be useful:
    http://www.autism.org.uk/directory
Of course, the community can also be used to talk to people generally and about any problems you encounter as well.

  • Hello all - I've been meaning to join for ages.  I'm in the process of having my 8 and a half year old daughter diagnosed.  She's a fantastic girl, terrified of talking to people (outside immediate family and her one good school friend from a former school), would love more friends, especially ones who 'get' her, but loves life nonetheless (in an anxiety-laden but spirited and determined way).  But, given the choice, she'd probably rather never go to school though...

Girls on the spectrum are a little bit of a rarity (around here anyway), so if there are any parents of girls out there (I'm in North Essex), who, like me, are feeling like an isolated minority within a minority, I'd love to know if any of you are interested in meeting up to share experiences and find potential new friends for your daughters.  If you are, do get in touch!

  • Hello Poppy and Mummypig

I would like to welcome you both to the forum.  I hope that you will find lots of help and assistance here.  Please do not hesitate to shout if you need any help about anything.

    CC  Smile
