Diabled entry

Hi

As a parent of a 4 year old son with asd I wondered if anyone could give me an idea about going to parks, days out etc. Ive never asked for a disabled ticket before and wondered whether other people do ? he gets middle DLA and I get carers allowance for him.

I was looking at the Alton Towers website today and noticed that they no longer accept DLA letters and wondered if there was an alternative you can apply for. We are due toi go to somerset in July and I would like to be able to ask for a disabled ticket to attractions but am concerned they will look at him and think im pulling their leg . Any ideas?

  • Our local Council has a "passport to leisure" scheme where the unemployed, senior citizens, disabled, school kids, etc. can get a pass which entitles them to reduced prices on various things. There is an orange sticker you get if the pass holder is disabled and so I can get in free when taking my son swimming and to many other places. It may be worth looking into to see if your local council has anything like this.

Personally, if Alton Towers has a disabled concession and they don't accept a DLA I would alert the Equalities Commission as this is disgraceful and discrimination. However I fully appreciate when you have an autistic child taking a stand and picking your fights is something you can't always do!
