Fixing a friend's laptop *Trigger Warning*

Yesterday, I was visiting my artist friend's home. He had issues with his laptop. He was looking at porn and was then bombarded by popups. Plus, his keyboard language was set to Arabic.

It took me a while to get the keyboard back to English - his laptop is Windows 7, and I am so used to having a Mac. Then the Apply button wouldn't activate. However, I persisted and got him sorted. Afterwards, I installed Firefox and added AdBlocker Plus for him.

My friend hasn't a Scooby about computers and gets pissed off extremely easy. But I didn't give up; then he let me have a John Lee Hooker LP as a Thank You gift.

  • Congratulations - I had a friend in a similar position - many times - after getting viruses through porn surfing - but the annoying thing was he always installed everythying as 'run on startup' so when his computer was stuffed, it was about 2 hours between reboots as all the programs were competeing with the viruses for the resources.       Usually took a weekend to get him 'clean' again.   Smiley

    My friend kept effing and blinding at me, and said, "Give up!" But I persisted. All that was needed was for the 'Apply' button to activate.

    I even had to pay the $30 (US) PayPal donation for the AdBlock Addon. He gave me £20 to cover for it - I ended up using the cash to pay for diesel on the way home. Smiley
