My DS's Special interests

I love my DS's enthusiasm about his special interests.  We can tap into almost anything if we use his current interests.  Here is a list of some of his interests over the years (he is 6 now):

trains

aeroplanes

elephants

satellites

spaceships

aerials

timezones

world cup 2010

flags

flight stats

Out of them all, aeroplanes has been the main theme.  I know so much about them as a result

  • That's so interesting ... my ES is 7 now and has had quite a few interests but the past year or so, not so much.

When he was in his pre-school year he was focussed on flags ... he knew them all and his bedroom wall was covered in flags friends brought us back.  We used to have a jigsaw with 100 flags on it and he could do the whole thing then he'd ask me to do it ... I've a total mental block when it comes to flags and was hopeless!!!

After flags it was cars (which still continues to some extent) and then birds.

I find it so funny that once the interest wanes, the information seems to be filed away neatly in the back of his mind until it's needed again.
