Hi All

I am becoming rather agitated with my current housing situation, I am currently in private rented one and half bedroomed place and this suited us all the time my daughter was younger.

My daughter is now 6 will be 7 next month and has outgrown her room, the whole place is small and sadly we have nowhere for her to go on her own to just listen to soft music and watch lights due to limited living conditions, my daughter needs more space for this as it helps calm her down being in her own space.

Any advice on this matter would be great where I can go or what I can do.

  • hi Calamity29 - I'm presuming the half-bedroom is v small? If it's really really small it may be worth checking out whether legally it's big enough to be classed as a 2nd bedroom.  Is your house classed as a 2-bed house because if it is then is there a reason you cannot move to a 2 bed house with a bigger 2nd bedroom?  Sorry, I don't know enough about your circumstances.  Social housing has v long waiting lists.  For people on hsg benefit the rules are changing nxt year + tenants will lose some hsg benefit is they have a spare bedroom.  I don't know if hsg benefit applies in your case but it's worth knowing anyway, even if just for info.  There a some things you can put in motion.  You cd get a letter from your gp, sw or any other person involved with your daughter to support your case. Then take advice from CAB or similar + then apply for housing in the social housing sector. Or you cd check out other 2 bed houses in the private sector, see what the rent is, how big the 2nd bedroom is + whether the area is suitable.  That's all I can suggest.  bw
